Who would you pick as your favorite president of the United States.
Firstly, this is a hot topic these days in December 2009
Secondly, there have been many presidents who did a great job in office, and to narrow the field is difficult. I have to expose my line of thinking, which opens me up for crtitique, and that I don't like so much, but whatever.
Currently, I have been studying the Federal Reserve Bank. This is not just because of the economic crisis the country faces at the moment, although; that sparked it, but mainly because they are a bunch of secretive back room business doers with vast amounts of wealth and power.
I started it with the idea of connections. The elite wealthy needed a way in to gain control. They needed to make strong connections with the policy makers and approvers. I started making a list of elected officials and their connections to corporate power. In doing so, I began looking at presidents. So far, I've researched a few presidents, and in the process, gotten a better idea of the kind of person they were on a personal level, as well as, what kind of politician they were, and what they were involved with, as far as, Acts approved or Vetoed, Executive branch developments, compromises with congress, and the all important art of diplomacy.
It doesn't matter to me what "the People" thought about him by the judgements from some guy writing a history essay or book, but by my readings of document verifiable facts of the president, in regards to, the changes that they made which transformed America for good or ill while doing their best to abide by, protect, defend, and preserve the Constitution of the United States.
I would have to select #5 James Monroe as my favorite.
on a side note: Ex-President George W. Bush It's hard to pick on a guy who had achieved so much of his dreams.
Sure he had faults, but who doesn't. Born into a life of wealth and privilege. He took advantage of both, but he also stood in front of the people for inspection. He graduated from Yale and Harvard. Avoided the draft to not risk dying in Vietnam, like some people I personally know. Became Governor of Texas. He co-owned his favorite baseball team. His daddy was also an ex-pres and ex-CIA(although I think you're never ex-CIA) so he had him pull of few strings and whammo-he's president (twice). Like a king has the old evil advisor at his side guiding him, Dick Cheney was with Bush. I am inclined to think that many things happened for ole Georgy without his even knowing about it. A parent wouldn't want to embarass their child that way. What he don't know won't hurt him.
That said, there is one thing I do blame on Bush II, and that is the Patriot Act. The least he could have done is read the whole thing. Maybe he did(which I doubt), and didn't care because of his wealth and privilege, he didn't bother with truly thinking how much it would damage the American way of life as we had known it.
